The filter should be tested and looked at carefully as should the electrical wiring, the motors, the pump, and the jets.

Another important point is that those who are selling their old hot tubs will generally drain out all the water so the tub itself can be looked at. There also may not be water in it because the owners probably haven't used it for a while and didn't want the water to stagnate.

However, those who are considering purchasing a used hot tub should ask the owner to fill it with water, and there are many reasons to make this request.

First of all, there is no way to determine whether or not the hot tub has leaks if one is unable to test it with water. If there is no water in it, then there will be no leaks but if it is filled with water then this is a very easy thing to determine. Another benefit of filling the spa is to see how the different parts of equipment are working and what condition they are in. Once there is water, the temperature can be tested so the potential buyer can see if the heaters are working properly. Also, the motors and the pump can be observed by watching the movement of the water.
